Excel - Lab Activity - Std VII



Make a list of 15 teachers and subjects taught by them. Apply Filters on the subjects field. Take printouts of the various filter options for the subjects and their result.

**Step 1: Creating the List**

 

1. Open Microsoft Excel or any spreadsheet software.

2. Create three columns: "Teacher Name," "Subject 1," "Subject 2."

 

**Step 2: Populating the Data**

 

Enter the teacher names and subjects they teach in the respective columns:

**Step 3: Applying Filters**

 

1. Select the header row of your data (Teacher Name, Subject 1, Subject 2).

2. In Excel, go to the "Data" tab, then click on the "Filter" button. Dropdown arrows will appear beside each header.

3. Click on the dropdown arrow beside "Subject 1" or "Subject 2."

 

**Step 4: Viewing Filtered Results**

 

- Filter 1: Show all teachers who teach "Music" subjects.

   Result:

 

- Filter 2: Show all teachers who teach "Hindi and English" subjects.

   Result:

 

- Filter 3: Show all teachers who teach "Languages."

   Result:

 

- Filter 4: Show all teachers who teach "Mathematics."

   Result:

 

You can then format the filtered results as needed and print them using the print options provided by your spreadsheet software.

Make a list of 10 of your friends in MS Excel. Make columns for the distance of their home from the school. Use sorting to arrange data in an order. Highlight the cells which show distance less than 2.5 km.

**Step 1: Open Microsoft Excel**

 

Open Microsoft Excel on your computer.

 

**Step 2: Create a New Spreadsheet**

 

1. Click on "Blank Workbook" to create a new Excel spreadsheet.

 

**Step 3: Enter Friend Names**

 

In the first column (Column A), enter the names of your friends. For example:

 

**Step 4: Add a Column for Distance**

 

In the second column (Column B), add the distance of each friend's home from the school. For example:

**Step 5: Sort Data**

 

Now, you can sort the data based on the distance from the school:

 

1. Select the entire range of data, including both columns A and B.

 

2. In Excel, go to the "Data" tab.

 

3. Click on "Sort" in the "Sort & Filter" group.

 

4. In the Sort dialog box, choose to sort by "Column B" (Distance) in ascending order (smallest to largest).

 

5. Click "OK."

 

**Step 6: Highlight Distances Less Than 2.5 km**

 

To highlight the cells where the distance is less than 2.5 km:

 

1. Select the cells in Column B (the distances).

 

2. In Excel, go to the "Home" tab.

 

3. Click on "Conditional Formatting" in the "Styles" group.

 

4. Choose "New Rule."

 

5. In the "New Formatting Rule" dialog box, select "Format cells that contain."

 

6. In the next dialog, set the condition to "less than" and enter 2.5 in the value box.

 

7. Click on the "Format" button.

 

8. In the "Format Cells" dialog box, go to the "Fill" tab, and choose a highlight color.

 

9. Click "OK" to close the "Format Cells" dialog.

 

10. Click "OK" again in the "New Formatting Rule" dialog.

 

Now, cells with distances less than 2.5 km will be highlighted with the chosen color.

 

That's it! You have successfully created a list of friends, added distance data, sorted the data, and highlighted cells with distances less than 2.5 km in Microsoft
